What We Do

We offer strength and hope each day, every day.

At Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City, we keep families with sick children close to each other and close to the care and resources they need. At our three Houses adjacent to Children’s Mercy Hospital and our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms inside Children’s Mercy and Overland Park Regional Medical Center, we create places of respite where families can rally around and support one another. While we are located near Children’s Mercy downtown, we serve all pediatric hospitals in Kansas City.

Here’s a peek at our campus:

Longfellow House

The Longfellow House was a unique project made possible by an unprecedented partnership between the KCMO Parks and Recreation department, Hallmark Cards Inc., and RMHC-KC. With 41 bedrooms, 12 of which are immunosuppressed suites, this is the largest Ronald McDonald House on Hospital Hill.

Bernstein House

Bernstein House

The second Ronald McDonald House in Kansas City opened on September 19, 1988, exactly seven years after the first. Originally named the Cherry Street House, it has 19 bedrooms for families, and includes an outdoor playground and Sporting KC basement. It was recently renamed on its 30th birthday to honor Dr. Phyliss and Bob Bernstein and their family.

Wylie House

The Wylie House was the third Ronald McDonald House opened on February 12, 2015. With area hospitals growing and expanding, the RMHC-KC waiting list had grown to unmanageable numbers. Adding 20 more bedrooms to make a total of 87 in Kansas City, the Wylie House was the answer to that need.

Ronald McDonald Family Rooms

Ronald McDonald Family Room are special places within Children’s Mercy and Overland Park Regional Medical Center where families can rest and still remain close to their child. It offers a comfortable home-like setting that includes a living room area with a television, fully equipped kitchen and laundry services. Ronald McDonald Family Room inside Children’s Mercy has seven overnight sleeping bedrooms; Overland Park Regional has four. Volunteers serve a dinner nearly every night, and our kitchen is stocked with donated snacks and food items. The Family Rooms are steps away from the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units and will offer a place for families to rest and regroup away from the medical environment.

Our Relationship with McDonald’s

Our GlobalFounding Mission Partner

From the moment we opened our first Ronald McDonald House in Philadelphia, PA, the entire McDonald’s system (owner/operators, suppliers, employees and customers) has helped us support families with sick children providing stability and vital resources.

McDonald’s support extends from monetary contributions and volunteerism, to cause-related marketing promotions and the space to place RMHC Donation Boxes that raise money for Chapters around the world. McDonald’s has helped RMHC positively impact millions of children and their families, and continues to provide valuable resources and support to help us expand our core programs and services.

Although the McDonald’s system is our largest corporate partner, RMHC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation. RMHC relies on the support of the entire community and greatly values donations from the community and other corporate partners.
